When is the release date ?
I am not able to estimate that right now. But I would like to provide some pre-purchase beta version in few months.
Is multiplayer supported ?
Yes. However it will be quite old school, where hosting player will need public IP. Hamachi (or similar networking) works as well. Technically the multiplayer is working, but the user experience may vary, because the network code is highly affected by network quality (latency).
The max number of players was not defined. Only thing I can tell is that we tested it with 7 players.
What are the system requirements ?
Something around CPU 1GHz, 1GB RAM, openGL capable 3D GPU. The game is primarily for Windows (XP, Vista and 7 tested) but because of used technologies it is possible I will make a port to Linux later.
Is it 3D or 2D ?
2D. I have the opinion that 3D is overrated (even for space games). Also I knew that I have enough knowledge and skill to do 2D game myself in some reasonable time. This would not be the case for 3D game.
What is the gameplay like ?
You have direct control of your ship. You control mainly the movement and weapons, but also shield and energy management and various other special systems. You try to outmanoeuvre your opponent, use your stronger shields, find weak spots and make your weapons as effective as possible. The action is pretty fast. If you played FW2, it’s very similar. Another than that, Starfleet command games were a big inspiration.
What technologies is the game build on ?
Java, OpenGL, LWJGL, Slick2D, KryoNet, TWL and few others.
How many ships can be in a battle ?
It depends on many factors. It is a question of balancing the visual effects. However the engine was tested with 200 ships in a battle at the same time.
